On Saturday, March 15, 2025, the African Australian Advocacy Centre (AAAC) successfully hosted a vibrant and inspiring Youth Leadership and Empowerment Workshop at 41 Hunter Street, Parramatta. The one-day event brought together a diverse group of young African Australians, aged 15 to 25, for an interactive experience focused on leadership, public speaking, self-confidence, and self-advocacy.
Running from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the workshop was facilitated by a distinguished panel of professionals, including:
- Noel Zihabamwe, Chair of AAAC
- Patricia Garcia AO, Institute for Economics and Peace
- Dr. Joshua Kayemba and Gisele Ishimwe –PhD Student from Western Sydney University
- Tamirirashe (Tamisha) Matara, Liverpool Youth Council
Participants engaged in a series of dynamic sessions, including “Leadership in Action,” “Speak Up Challenge,” and “Advocacy Role-Play.” These activities encouraged young attendees to explore their strengths, share their voices, and build strategies for creating positive change within their communities.
The workshop also featured networking opportunities, with guest speakers sharing their personal journeys, challenges, and successes. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm, reflection, and a strong sense of community connection.
Organised by AAAC, a leading volunteer-run not-for-profit, the event highlighted the Centre’s commitment to empowering African Australians to become active contributors to Australia’s social, economic, and cultural landscape. The workshop directly addressed key issues affecting African Australian youth, including systemic barriers to education, employment, and mental health services.
The day concluded with a powerful reflection session, where each participant committed to a personal leadership or advocacy goal, leaving inspired and equipped to step confidently into their future roles as changemakers.
